CCHIT gets official, approves new vendors

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology keeps picking up momentum. Not only has it given 11 more products its seal of approval, it just got officially named as a "recognized certification body" by HHS. To date, CCHIT has certified 33 ambulatory EHR products, which had to meet all of CCHIT's 200-odd criteria. It will follow up by certifying hospital EHRs and health information exchange infrastructures.

CCHIT unveils new EMR certification criteria

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology just posted its proposed expanded criteria for ambulatory care electronic medical records systems for 2007, and proposed initial criteria for inpatient EMRs. Public comments are due by October 27. The goal is to have final proposed certification criteria by year-end for both ambulatory and inpatient EMRs. The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), which is trying to encourage the adoption of healthcare information technology by physicians, last week named the 17 vendors whose ambulatory EHR products pass the commission's muster. Products that comply with 100 percent of the functionality and security criteria tested during the inspection will bear a CCHIT Certified(sm) seal that provides the first real benchmark for ambulatory EHR products, officials said. …

Certifications coming for ambulatory EHR vendors

Coming soon to a happy vendor near you: The Certification Commission for Healthcare IT (CCHIT) list of the first group of certified electronic health record software vendors. Slated for a July 18 release, the list may help providers struggling with a somewhat fragmented vendor market.
