The Gary and Mary West Foundation recently contributed $45 million to the West Wireless Health Institute in hopes of improving the drive to bring wireless health solutions to the public more quickly. Gary West, the foundation's founder and chairman, now will serve on the institute's board of directors, as well Eric Topol and Donald Jones. Topol currently is the chair of Innovative Medicine with the institute, and a chief academic officer with Scripps Health. Jones is the vice president of Health and Life Sciences at Qualcomm.

Topol will lead efforts to improve care through wireless devices, ensuring safety, cost-effectiveness and reliability. Said Topol, "there is tremendous potential to upgrade quality of care, reduce the cost burden and shift away from reactive to preventative medicine." Jones will help to merge wireless technology with all of the research performed.

"We believe the launch of the West Wireless Health Institute will lead to levels of care never before seen in the delivery of healthcare," Jones said.
