Trend: EMR-on-cellphone interest grows

EMR use may not be widespread yet, but wireless vendors are making their plans. At least two EMR vendors recently announced they're making their technology accessible for mobile devices. In one example, vendor Life Record recently announced an update to its EMR which will add support for Apple's iPhone. Life Record is aiming its latest development primarily at clinicians.

Another vendor, CapMed, is making EMR technology available to consumers via cell phones. The CapMed system, known as ICE First, should be compatible with phones from several standard manufacturers, including Nokia, Palm, Blackberry, LG and Samsung (and later, the iPhone). CapMed's system allows consumers to store medical information in their cell phones, or update their medical records using www.ICEfirst.com.
