The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Northwest Health Network was able to save roughly $742,000 in 2011 through the use of telehealth, InformationWeek Healthcare reports. The division, which serves Oregon, Washington, parts of Northern California, Montana and Alaska, offered close to 24,000 remote consultations throughout the year. One provider in particular, the VA Roseburg (Ore.) Healthcare System, saved more than $88,000 in travel costs alone by treating more than 3,200 patients via telehealth instead of in person. Article
