Suresripts has been named by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology as the sixth organization that can test and approve certain electronic health records modules under under ONC's temporary certification program.

The Arlington, Va.-based company will verify that electronic health record modules for electronic prescribing and privacy will meet meaningful use standards and certification criteria, said ONC in a Dec. 23 announcement. The company currently connects providers with pharmacies and benefit managers. In October, Surescripts began to expand its e-prescribing network to offer health information exchange services for all types of clinical information.

As an ONC-Authorized Temporary Certification Body (ATCB), Surescripts joins the Certification Commission for Health IT (CCHIT), the Drummond Group, InfoGard Labs, ICSA Labs and SLI Global Solutions, says Government Health IT News. Every organization but Surescripts may certify both complete EHRs and EHR modules, ONC said.

The program, which will expire in December 2011, was developed to ensure that health IT vendors have their products and services certified in time for providers to meet 2011 deadlines for meeting first stage meaningful use requirements.
