Study: Most Americans against raising IT spending

While federal legislators--and our incoming president--seem to be strongly in favor of spending more on health IT, apparently they haven't managed to sell the public on this notion. A new study by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Harvard School of Public Health has concluded that Americans largely don't support increased federal spending on health IT.

Sixty percent of respondents said that the incoming president and Congress should keep health IT spending at the same level as before, while only 20 percent felt health IT spending should go up. Meanwhile, 17 percent suggested that spending should drop.

Consumers seemed more interested in other healthcare investments. For example, the same study found that 64 percent of respondents favored increased spending on veterans' medical care and 66 percent favored creating a new independent scientific body to evaluate whether new medical technology, drugs and treatments should be covered by health insurers.
