Its really hard to know how an EMR will perform in real practice. The vendor demos and list of functionality can make an EMR look really impressive. Its very important therefore to actually use the EMR in real practice situations in order to know if it will work for you. Some vendors may allow you to "test-drive" the EMR in a sandbox environment. In this case, its so important to try using the EMR for actual patient care tasks, documenting typical encounters, refilling prescriptions, ordering tests etc. This way you you'll know if the EMR is right for you.
