Fast Facts: Reel, who has served as vice provost for information technology, and as CIO at Johns Hopkins since 1999, has also worked as Johns Hopkins Medicine's vice president for information services since 1994. She also serves on the client advisory boards for IBM, GE Medical Systems and the Information systems Advisory Council for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, to name a few.

Why she's so fierce: Reel is the rare CIO who runs IT for the health system at a major teaching institution and the entire university. She is helping to install modern IT infrastructure in numerous replacement buildings going up on an aging campus, with a focus on workflow and quality, while also migrating from a home-grown EMR and a hodge-podge of ancillary systems to an Eclipsys EMR across most of the enterprise. To top it off, Reel's work on electronic patient records management has even been honored by the Smithsonian Institution.
