Baptist Health System CIO Rich Shirey: Clinical integration and network performance

Baptist Health System, which owns and manages four hospitals and 38 clinics in Alabama, has begun deploying an integrated EHR and practice management system to affiliated physician practices as part of a larger clinical integration strategy. "We believe that if you try to install EHR that doesn't tightly integrate with your practice management solution, you lose some opportunity," Baptist Health System CIO Rich Shirey says in an interview with FierceCIO. The IS group at Baptist not only supports the organization's own facilities, but also provides services to other physicians and clinics in its service area. In delivering these clinical and administrative applications, BHS ranks performance and service levels among its top priorities.
