Ochsner automates anesthesia management

Ochsner Health System in New Orleans has automated anesthesia management at 41 locations with a new system from Atlanta-based DocuSys. The anesthesia information management system includes advanced clinical decision support to help Ochsner document anesthesia administration and report on national quality measures. The system supports barcode scanning, close tracking of narcotics and charge-capture capabilities that also help clinicians document co-morbidities.

"Ochsner is implementing the first technology that allows narcotics, dispensed from CareFusion's Pyxis Anesthesia System, to be electronically reconciled at the point of care with documentation of narcotic administration in the DocuSys Anesthesia Information Management System," anesthesiologist Dr. James Douglas said, according to Healthcare IT News.

As a companion to the anesthesiology technology, Ochsner will install a DocuSys presurgical management system later this year.
