NY kicks off final phase of RHIO funding

The state of New York is in the final phase of a process awarding $52.9 million to foster regional health IT initiatives. The state has already gone through two rounds of RHIO project funding; this is the third and last phase of the grant program. The funds are being supplied as part of the state's Healthcare Efficiency and Affordability Law for New Yorkers. The grants, which will range from $100,000 to $5 million, will help community health groups create RHIOs. Community groups will need to pick up a substantial part of the costs, however, as the grants will cover a maximum of 40 percent of the project's overall cost. Eligible projects include community sharing of imaging data, networks for back-and-forth sharing of public health data and efforts designed to increase use of interoperable EMRs, e-prescribing and other clinical data projects.
