The Minnesota Department of Health has announced a $1.5 million series of grants intended to help rural and underserved areas of the state develop health information collaborative. Grants will fund groups pulling together a broad array of entities in a given community, including hospitals, clinics, health departments and long-term care facilities. Groups will use the money either to plan for health IT adoption or implement an e-health project intended to improve local healthcare. Projects planned including the implementation of rural EMRs, development of personal health records for the chronically ill and setting up secure data exchanges between physicians. The projects will run through the end of 2007.
