Since launching three and a half years ago, more than 10.8 million e-prescriptions have been transmitted over Massachusetts' payer-backed e-network. During the past six months alone, says eRX Collaborative, which runs the network, more than 2.6 million prescriptions were transmitted--and more importantly, 50,000 were changed as a result of safety alerts pushed out by the enabling software.

Payers backing the initiative include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Tufts Health Plan and Neighborhood Health Plan. Collectively, the payers have given almost 4,800 physicians PDAs and e-prescribing software.
