Remember the idea of adding a "blue button" to EMR screens to make it easy to output personal health data? The Markle Foundation, which has been leading the campaign, has released a study showing that two-thirds of physicians and consumers alike "agreed with the concept of a blue button that you can click to download your own health information," according to a press release. And merely 7 percent of the public and 15 percent of physicians disagreed with the statement that patients should be allowed to download copies of "pertinent health information." Nearly half of physicians surveyed and 62 percent of consumers also indicated that with the federal government spending an estimated $27 billion to encourage EMR adoption, the incentive program should give patients the right to have electronic copies of their own records.
