KLAS says providers are integrating pharmacy systems
A new report from vendor performance analyst KLAS concludes that providers are getting serious about integrating pharmacy platforms with core clinical systems.
With providers adopting e-prescribing and focusing increasingly on patient safety, integration with pharmacy systems is becoming more and more important, KLAS reports. If links between pharmacy systems and other key clinical systems aren't handled well, providers may not adopt the systems, or may be uncomfortable with using them, the firm notes.
The report, which profiles the performances of eight pharmacy automation vendors, looks at how well each product locks in with other components of the medication administration process. All told, pharmacy software continues to get some of the lowest marks of any software tracked by KLAS, the research firm notes. Still, there are a few leaders in the pack.
The 350 healthcare professionals surveyed gave Epic's EpicRX inpatient the highest overall performance score, citing its integration with components like CPOE, pharmacy and barcoding at the point of care. They also cited Eclipsys Sunrise Pharmacy, which won high marks for integrating with Sunrise Clinical Manager, and Siemens, whose Siemens Pharmacy product was rated highly when integrated with the Siemens Medication Administration Check product.
