KLAS says health IT vendors don't offer enough support

A new report from KLAS gives health IT vendors bad grades when it comes to service and support, something that should make them quite nervous when providers are gearing up to spend those big stimulus bucks.

The report, which includes feedback from CIOs and other healthcare executives, found that more than 25 percent of healthcare providers want vendors to help them achieve stronger ROI by offering them more training and support. However, few vendors are doing that, KLAS says.

If those vendors want to benefit from the upcoming wave of stimulus spending, they'd better get their act together soon. Almost one-third of providers have already sped up or changed their health IT investment plans in response to the enactment of the stimulus law. Meanwhile, another 43 percent are cautiously prepared to alter their plans. (Perhaps service and support offerings could get them off the fence?)

A few vendors do seem to be making the cut already, including Epic, General Electric and Microsoft. Meanwhile, Agfa, Kronos and Meditech got the lowest scores from health IT execs.
