HIMSS10: Mobile and wireless technologies come of age

There's a reason why we launched FierceMobileHealthcare last year. Wireless and mobile technologies could represent the future of healthcare. They definitely will be represented at HIMSS10.

The conference opens Monday, March 1, with a keynote address from Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse, but that's far from the only presence mobile healthcare will have at next week's event in Atlanta.

Get up early on Tuesday morning so you won't miss our own mHealth executive breakfast panel, which runs from 7 to 8:15 a.m., at the Sheraton Atlanta, with complimentary shuttle service back to the convention center.

It will focus on the latest trends, best practices and lessons-learned relevant to using/implementing mobile health technology. The panel includes Roger Zaremba, CTO of St. Luke's Health System in Missouri, and Geoffrey Brown, CIO of Inova Health System in Virginia, as well as executives from Sprint.

We'll have free shuttle service back to the convention center so you'll arrive in time to learn about mobile health information exchange during natural disasters and medical emergencies from two participants in the New Mexico Health Information Collaborative, at 9:45 a.m.

Wednesday, March 3 at 2:15 p.m., Dr. Yan Chow of Kaiser Permanente's associate director of innovation and advanced technology joins with mobile healthcare market researcher Gregg Malkary of Spyglass Consulting Group to discuss "Trends in Remote Patient Monitoring and Home Telehealth."

Down at the Product Pavilion on the show floor, Booth 607 will be devoted to wireless technologies and mobility. Eight different presentations are scheduled there, most on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
