Group works to bring medical practices onto the Web

A new trade organization is pushing to get doctors and dentists to begin doing a great deal more business online--and in the process, document the free care they provide to medically indigent and underinsured patients.

The group, the International Association of Dental and Medical Disciplines, charges members a substantial $1,899 to join. However, in return they get a hosted site offering encrypted credit card billing, prescription renewals and e-mail functions. In the future, the groups says, it may also offer EMR access, or offer an interface to Microsoft's or another organization's PHR. In addition to these more-traditional functions, the sites also offers tools designed to track and account for free or discounted care.
