Giant employers move ahead with PHR project
While it was stalled for months by troubles with its original vendor of choice, the massive PHR project backed by the likes of Wal-Mart, AT&T, Sanofi-Aventis and Intel is back underway again. The Dossia Consortium has hired the Children's Hospital Informatics Program at Children's Hospital Boston to take over development of the PHR, which will link hospital, physician and pharmacy data for millions of employees. CHIP had previously developed Indivo, a personally controlled health record, with grants from the CDC and National Library of Medicine.
Dossia had originally contracted with Omnimedix to build out the system, but later said that the Portland, OR-based firm wasn't delivering on its contract, and was actually billing for results it hadn't provided. The two entities ended up in a months-long court fight as to who actually owned the intellectual property involved.
