DoD partners with FL for data sharing network
Marking the first collaboration between the agency and a state government, the U.S. Department of Defense has kicked off a project under which it will share health information with Florida's government. Under the terms of the agreement, the DoD will work with the Tampa Bay Regional Health Information Organization to create an interoperable data sharing network. The project will be overseen by the state's lead health agency, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. To make things work, the Tampa Bay RHIO will lead the development of an interface with the military's $1.2 billion EMR, known as the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (or AHLTA, for short). The Military Health System, which is designed to reach more than 9 million U.S. service members, retirees and family members around the globe, has about 700,000 beneficiaries who live full- or part-time in Florida.
