Physicians could be putting the doctor-patient relationship in jeopardy because they don't control their own privacy very well on Facebook, according to a recent study of French medical residents. The study, which appeared in the Journal of Medical Ethics, found that nearly half of the physicians-in-training surveyed believed that the patient-physician relationship could be altered if patients learned their doctor had a Facebook account--particularly if a patient could access their profile, TG Daily reports. But 98 percent of those doctors with Facebook accounts displayed enough personal information for others to identify them. "Doctors must be aware that comments and pictures posted online may be misinterpreted outside their original context and may not accurately reflect their opinions and real-life behavior," the study says. "This information could also become accessible to people that it was not intended for." Article
