Concerns remain about the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT's plan to allocate $70 million in grants to five community colleges for health IT training, according to Government Health IT. Gayle Harrell, a Republican legislator from Florida, said at a recent meeting of the Health IT Policy Committee that her constituents believe the program's students are graduating without the proper amount of hands-on training. Patricia Dombrowski, director of the Life Science and Informatics Center at Bellevue (Wash.) College--one of the institutions charged with such training--countered that some electronic health records vendors have been hesitant to grant students access to their products due to proprietary breach concerns.
