Coding professionals have lots of options at AHIMA meeting

AHIMA has deep roots in coding, and the organization is staying true to its heritage with a strong dose of coding education. It starts Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4, with a preconference meeting of AHIMA's Clinical Coding Community, covering such topics as ICD-10, improving documentation with EMRs, other forms of computer-assisted coding, preparing for the Medicare recovery audit contractor program, revenue-cycle management and managing payer denials.

There's another educational track on coding during the main conference, the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 7. And for those staying until the very end of the conference, there's a session related to computer-assisted coding on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 9 a.m., featuring speakers from healthcare data-mining pioneer Ingenix and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

A series of reports the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 6, on AHIMA's advocacy efforts will address coding issues as well. AHIMA specialists Don Asmonga, Sue Bowman, Allison Viola and Dan Rode will speak about ICD-10, privacy of patient information and RACs.
