certification commission

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology keeps picking up momentum. Not only has it given 11 more products its seal of approval, it just got officially named as a "recognized certification body" by HHS. To date, CCHIT has certified 33 ambulatory EHR products, which had to meet all of CCHIT's 200-odd criteria. It will follow up by certifying hospital EHRs and health information exchange infrastructures.

CCHIT's picks include ABELMed PM--EMR by ABELSoft, AcerMed by AcerMed, Bond Clinician EHR by Bond Technologies, Medical Practice EMR by CPSI, Sunrise Ambulatory Care by Eclipsys Corporation, CareRevolution by EHS, PrimeSuite by Greenway Medical Technologies, MediNotes e by MediNotes Corporation, MedPlexus EHR by MedPlexus, Avatar by Netsmart Technologies and Noteworthy EHR by Noteworthy Medical Systems.

The "CCHIT" is, yet another, formulated pseudo-"authority" created recently
from the funds of some $7.5 million from the HHS. They intend to impose
some sort of testing of EMR vendors to qualify them to some "standard" which
they created. While there may be somemerrit to reviewing vendors for the benefit of Providers, I was SHOCKED to find that they, CCHIT, want a sum of $23,000 plus $4,800 annually from vendors to qualify. Vendors can qualify themselves and provide a "sticker" to place on their website for FREE. To me CCHIT is a total scam and provides no
credibility/validity to their organization to assist Physicians...and yet
another reason why, if vendors do this, EMRs remain large-in-part cost
prohibitive to practioners and clinics. Vendors accepting such corruption will just pass this expense on! Would a Provider wish to work with such a vendor? The CCHIT and their vendor list is a list for which Providers should NOT go to for EMR.

Vendors do NOT need some fabricated group to validate their products. Happy customers that "certify" it... is all that vendors and their prospects need.

I could likely say that vendors have been involved with EMR and medicine far longer than anyone within the CCHIT group. They are NO authority in my view...just some
money making group...those that pop-up to steal dollars in a young industry. Just check out how many consultants are popping up these days regarding EMR.

Q: What happens to CCHIT when they blow through their $7.5 million. You got it,... they're gone.

One Provider said "Like with the onset of HIPAA there are always scammers out there willing and able to profit on others fears, insecurities and stupidity."

Lets begin treating Physicians and healthcare with some respect.
