Bronx group gets $4.1M RHIO grant

A new RHIO is being kicked off to serve the 1.4 million residents of the Bronx. The Bronx Regional Health Information Organization, which just got a $4.1 million grant from New York state, will include 80 percent of the borough's providers, 50 percent of the borough's physicians and two-thirds of all inpatient care, the group said. The grant is part of a $52.9 million package of 26 state grants handed out under the state's Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law.

Participants in the new RHIO include the James J. Peters Veterans Administration hospital, Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx Lebanon Hospital and three NYC Health and Hospital Corp. hospitals. These participants have already built out clinical information systems, with data including containing lab and imaging results and prescription histories. The idea, of course, is to link these systems together. Technology vendors Emerging Health Information Technology and dbMotion will be handling the systems integration effort.
