Survey: Almost 40 percent of physicians use EMRs

A new survey finds some positive news about EMR adoption: nearly 40 percent of physicians use at least a minimal EMR.

This number is up almost one-third from 2006, when only 29 percent of doctors reported using EMRs. The survey, performed by the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics, asked 2,000 office-based physicians whether they used EMRs. Out of the physicians, only 4 percent reported using fully functional EMR systems, but 17 percent said they used a basic system and over 20 percent said they used a minimal EMR system.
